June 4th - Lab Tour

  • Seattle Children's Research Center (Lobby) 1900 Ninth Ave Seattle, WA 98101 United States (map)

This June 4th, science and philosophy merge for a private tour at the Seattle Children's Research Institute.  SoundBio Lab is partnering with the Seattle Practical Philosophy Club, a community and biweekly discussion club (also based in the U-District!) that engages with applied philosophy – a branch of philosophy that focuses on real-world concerns. Our own Board President Nafisa Shazia who leads for both organizations is delighted to offer a second joint event after holding the first in Feb 2026.

We will visit the Kaushansky Lab, which seeks a cure for malaria, a global vector-borne disease that causes more than 600,000 deaths annually, cutting short the lives of countless children. In 2025, WHO reported that children under 5 accounted for 75% of all malaria deaths in the WHO African Region (spanning 47 countries).
